Street Press Australia is proud to announce the acquisition of Sydney’s iconic dance title, 3D World. Street Press Australia’s ethos has always been to create a truly credible, content-driven national street press network – the addition of 3D World marks the completion of that mission in the dance market. Combined with Zebra (Vic and Qld) and Members Only (WA), SPA services clubbers and danceheads with more than 135,000 magazines a week. SPA is excited to be publisher of Sydney and Australia’s most renowned street press brands as 3D World joins a stable that includes fellow iconic Sydney brand, the rock’n’roll paper Drum Media.

3D World hit the streets in 1989, when it became apparent that the rock‘n’roll ethic was not the only lifestyle subscribed to on the streets of Sydney. Club culture and its associated industries had become forces to be reckoned with, and the ‘street’ crowd wanted to know more about what was happening and where they could get it. The 3D World street bible was born...

3D World is a free weekly street press magazine. With a readership aged 14-35, and split evenly between the sexes, 3D World is the perfect vehicle to reach the youth demographic. 3D World is officially audited by the Circulation Audit Board at 31,000 copies, with 150,000 readers spread across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Byron Bay, Newcastle and Wollongong and still growing. 3D World distributors include cafes, bars, clubs, cinemas, record stores, theatres, bookstores, beauty salons and fashion outlets.

3D World has been a title admired by SPA over the years as it has always carried a similar approach and aesthetic to its titles. Dedication to quality editorial has been their cornerstone, which is a characteristic that SPA titles also strive to embody. The SPA directive is to carry on the tradition while redeveloping the paper to reflect its glorious past and embracing a re-invigorated future outlook. SPA will be the first publisher to offer a truly national solution for those advertisers targeting club culture. As part of a national network of dance and club culture magazines, the ability to attract key interviews and access to both local and international artists will become easier as we will offer unparalleled reach in the market place.

“The sale of 3D World to SPA is a momentous occasion for me and all the people, both readers and advertisers, who have been a part of the publication over the last 20 years. The brand’s strong association with the dance music industry makes it an ideal fit with the SPA vision for a national, one stop music street press. The combined synergies of SPA and 3D World can only take this media to a new level never previously thought possible for street press. I wish the guys well in this endeavour and will follow their progress with keen interest.”

- Jonathan Morris (Founder/Publisher 3D World)

“In what is a truly tough market in the current climate, we look forward to reinvigorating 3D over the coming weeks and are genuinely excited by completing a 10 year goal to have dance titles in all Australia’s key markets.”

Street Press Australia: The story so far

In 1999 Craig Treweek and Brian Peacock purchased Melbourne streetpaper Inpress from Joe Cipriani, the current publisher of Perth-based, Rural Press (Fairfax) publication Xpress. Treweek’s brother Leigh joined the company in 2000, going on to buy Peacock’s share of the business in 2005. A move to expand the company in 2006 found them taking on third partner Julius Larobina, Managing Director of youth and B2B publisher Tempo Media. Street Press Australia was born. In February 2006, Street Press Australia purchased iconic Sydney streetpaper The Drum Media and sought to extend their media network by launching a second Drum in Perth in September of the same year. Demand to create a truly national network of street press led to a business arrangement with Adelaide’s Rip It Up and in June 2008 the network was again extended with the purchase of Queensland-based Time Off. Street Press Australia is thrilled to announce the purchase of iconic Sydney brand 3D World and achieve its dream in only three short years.
