Hotly tipped Bristol drum & bassers Kosheen were inspired by Massive Attack and Portishead founder Geoff Barrow in 1989, the band's Darren Decoder revealed this week. "Geoff was working for Massive Attack in some capacity at the time and they'd got him some kit (electronic equipment)," said Darren. "I remember being at Geoff's house and he showed me this sampler he had, this old Akai. He played me some bits of music he'd started to put together and I was like 'jee-sus'." Darren, who'd previously been playing in West Country punk groups, promptly hooked up with hardcore pioneers Spiral Tribe, started making hardcore records and 12 years later, went top 10 in the UK this week with Kosheen's new single Hide U. The band's recommended debut album Resist is out on 17th September.
'Adam F wants to make a big splash in America; he wants a hip hop payday' NME reported last week, 7 days before EMI launched a massive Hollywood-style ad campaign including full page ads in NME. The advert features a US cityscape enclosed in a glass dome and represents a radical departure from the former home counties drum & bass head. Adam F Productions Present Kaos- The Anti Acoustic Warfare' featuring input from LL Cool J, Beenie Man, MOP, Guru and De La Soul, is out shortly.
