BEAUTY NEWS SPECIAL

Disco Lights is a mini party in your purse, and everyone’s invited. Model Co brings us this innovative new product, an ultra shine lipgloss with built-in disco lights that flash in time to music. Who would’ve thought! The first thing that crossed our minds when we saw this product was not that we’d have plump and succulent lips all night, but that we could use it as a spotlight to retrieve our mobile phones or any other ‘missing’ items from the bottom of our handbags after a few too many vodka and cranberries. With around 50 hours of battery life, it could also be effectively employed as a dancefloor flare to attract the attention of hot babes. Just be careful that it doesn’t take the spotlight off you and your amazing dance moves. Available exclusively from David Jones and modelco.com.au.

For some of us, a bad hair day means having to wear some form of headwear to cover a few stray hairs. For others, it means a rigorous routine of straightening to get rid of a post-electric shock look, which would be acceptable if hair metal was what we were aiming for. It’s great to always have a few staple beauty products to count on, and the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum is an exemplar of such a classic. How long have you seen this product floating around for- The answer is 15 years, and it is still the #1 best-selling serum for frizz-prone hair. Frizz-Ease is available in three formulas – Lite, Original and Extra-Strength, each targeted to a specific hair texture. So from thinning scalps to thick locks, it’s time to ditch the Einstein factor, and tame those flyaways for good. For stockists visit johnfrieda.com.

Renowned London-based hair institute Mahogany has teamed up with Italian professional hair care innovators, ALFAPARF, to create a new line called S4U. That’s Style For You, if you’re not down with abbreviations. S4U draws on the design aesthetic of two of the world’s most fashion-forward cities, London and Milan. Favoured by hairdressers, but available to laymen and women, the range features six products that provide a plethora of looks. Our favourite tried and tested product is Posh’N, a soothing potion that moisturises, detangles, and smells dreamy. S4U is available from Mahogany Hairdressing Sydney – (02) 9331 0111.

Unless you want to go for an Allison Reynolds Breakfast Club thing, dandruff probably isn’t what you’re after. Luckily, Aveda has introduced Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution, which promises to reduce flaking by up to 41% in one week. That’s a lot of dead skin cells! The Scalp Remedy draws upon Aveda’s botanical science inklings and uses calming essential oils and herbs to make you think that you’re getting a hair treatment at the same time as shedding those flakes. Visit aveda.com for stockists.

Boon-Dah
Inspired by the Brazilian streets and compelled to design a line of jeans to show off female curves to the max, Boon-Dah creator and CEO Rebecca Jade Davis reckons her denim is the best in the biz. 3D found out more about the label, and the vision behind it.

Tell us a bit about yourself and the label-

I love to travel and try new things. I feel there is no limit to what you can do. Live every day like it’s your last. I am a young Australian designer who fell into starting my own label. I followed a dream that turned into a reality. Boon-Dah was created when I first went to Brazil with my fiancé. I fell in love with the culture, people, fashion, food, and music. I wanted to create a line that would represent this. I felt there wasn’t a label out in Australia like this. Inspired by the streets of Brazil, Boon-Dah – Portuguese for beautiful booty – are the sexist premium Jeans ever made. My Jeans are all about making a woman feel sexy, proud and glamorous. I think my fresh and innovative approach to denim is what sets my label apart from others. Through this whole journey of starting Boon-Dah, I was pregnant. My beautiful son is now 15 months old. I love being a mother, designing and running my own company.

How do your jeans work-
The material is very unique, not only is it very comfortable to wear it is also allows your body to breath. It is also very soft against your skin. The fabric holds you in all the right places, showcasing and supporting the most important part: the Boon-Dah! It is great for women who want to compliment or enhance their curves.

What about Brazil, how does it influence your designs-

Boon-Dah is a Brazilian inspired label.  Each style and colour and nickname represents a city in Brazil. The culture, the scenery and the beauty of the women helped inspired my collections.

What does the ultimate Boon-dah girl look like-
She would have to be sporting beautiful curves, be confident, sexy and proud in her walk. And looking fabulous at all times. I think every girl is a Boon-Dah girl.

What’s the best thing to do while wearing your jeans-

Put on some sexy heels, sport some fabulous accessories, and have some cocktails with the girls!  Then hit the clubs and dance all night.

What are the three things you are most looking forward to this summer- Hanging out and surfing our beautiful Aussie beaches, spending time with my family, chilling with my girls having cocktails. And heading to Brazil for Carnival.

If you could dress anyone in the world, who would it be, and why-

So many ladies I would love to dress. I would have to say Eva Longoria. She is always hitting the red carpet in the hottest designer labels, she always looks amazing whatever she wears. She loves comfort and loves to wear jeans and T-shirts when she’s not on the red carpet. My jeans are made for her; I think she would look fabulous in them.

How would you define sexy-

Sexy is all about how someone carries and presents themself. Feeling good on the inside I always say, “it reflects on the outside.” Like beauty, sexy is in the eye of the beholder.

What are your tips for wearing denim in summer-

Boon-Dah Skinny Capris. Great for all shapes and sizes, breathable fabric and very comfortable.  My tips for wearing Boon-Dah Skinny Capris: wear them causal with some flats and a T-shirt, or dress it up with a sexy evening top and some fierce heels.
