3D catches up with dubstep DJ/producer Seven – the man responsible for the likes of Dark Passenger and Siren – hitting Void this weekend.

You started out with a career in drum n bass as a DJ and producer, before making the switch to dubstep in 2006 – what influenced your decision to change your production style-
It was around that time I really started feeling what people were doing in dubstep and being massively influenced by my close friend DJ Youngsta. I decided to make him a couple of tunes as an experiment to see if the ideas I had in mind would work as tunes in his dubstep sets. I made Siren and Dark Passenger. It was just a logical progression from then on…

What are you working on right now-
I’m constantly in the studio; I make at least two tracks a week. Lately I have been experimenting with different sounds and styles. I have been making some really deep dark and rolling tunes. I’m having so much fun. I have been doing lots of remixes too, which I really enjoy. I have also been collaborating a lot too. With N-Type and Youngsta and also a brand new female dubstep artist/DJ, soon to be announced. So there’s lots happening right now.

How would you describe your mixing style- Is it a high energy, fast mixing style in the vein of Andy C or N-Type, or are you more into the extended mixes- (We note Andy C has described you as the ‘DJ who practices most in the whole industry’, does that influence your mixing style-)
Very high energy! I am similar to both in the way of the amount of tunes that gets played, but I tend to play more of the track than they do and every mix is a double drop. So a cross between Andy C, N-Type and Youngsta. I still manage to average about 28 tunes in an hour. I love to DJ and yeah, I do practice a lot, so you can expect some serious mixing from me.

Who are some of the producers you’re digging right now, in dubstep and outside-
Chase & Status: everything they do is just pure production genius, big up to those guys. Skream and Benga: they lead the way. Breakage: just pure production class, I love everything he makes. Benny Page: prolific dancefloor killa. Neptunes: they just make the sickest beats, no matter who they work with, it’s always a hit.

Finally, what are you bringing with you for your set at VOID-
Expect an abundance of new tunes by myself, and the above artists and pure high energy double drop bass line juggle madness!
