Proton Radio's James Lauer has grown to become a major force in the worldwide
underground house community and continues to steadily prove himself as someone who is dedicated to pushing house music forward. He strives to keep every
set he plays as fresh and diverse as possible and his efforts have consistently
earned him bookings at top locations in his hometown of Chicago as well as at
larger clubs in locations around the globe.

Raised on a steady diet of Chicago House, James eventually discovered the
deeper and darker sides of house music while traveling and working abroad
in Australia and Europe. Returning to Chicago in 1999, he started throwing
regular underground nights and house parties, eventually earning residency
spots at some of the most respected clubs and house nights in the city. In
2002, James joined friend Andrew Suprenant and kicked off the Diversified
Portfolio radio show on WNUR 89.3FM, the same station that he grew up
listening to and formerly the radio home of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and
many of Chicago's legendary DJ's during house music's explosion in the
80's and 90's. A station that is currently recognized as the largest non-commercial
radio station in the Midwest and one of the largest alternatives to mainstream
corporate radio in the United States, WNUR has provided James with an
opportunity to express his style and showcase a diverse range of house
and techno that normally is not heard on the radio or even in the clubs.
His show airs live every week and also features an impressive lineup of
special guests including many of Chicago's most respected DJ's as well
as live mixes from many of the world's largest International DJ's in the
world on their way through Chicago. In addition to WNUR, James is also
regularly featured on a number of other radio outlets around the world
including London's House FM, XTC Radio London, XM Radio Channels
80-82, Samurai FM in Japan and recently on Proton Radio where he runs
a monthly show titled Chicago Underground Sessions.

Outside of his radio efforts, James maintains a busy DJ schedule and has
played regularly at a number of top club nights in Chicago, New York, London,
San Francisco, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Miami and elsewhere
and has recently been featured at such events as the Love Parade and the
Miami Winter Music Conference. His live sets strive to create a musical
environment in which even the most critical listeners will find something
that catches their ear and his style has been described and deep and
emotional and able to move people both inside and out.

On the production front, James is currently working on a number of
independent projects involving new software production techniques in
addition to remixing and creating a number of his own tracks due out in
the near future. As with his DJing, James believes that his production style
is somewhat unique and hopes that at the end of the night you will have
found some slightly less obvious grooves in his music.
